Cage - Kill the Architect

The twisted rhymes of Cage are back to haunt listeners right in time for Halloween! I was a huge fan of Movies for the Blind and Hells Winter but was not really feeling the new direction he took with his last album Depart From Me, however this new album is really, really good. It sounds like Cage is going back to his dark roots with songs like "Lamb of Nothing" and "The Hunt". Teaming up once again with legendary producer Mighy Mi, this album has an oldschool feel with Cage's new age touches sprinkled on top. As an artist, Cage continues to push the envelope by using his tortured past to weave his dark and mysterious ballads. He also reveals his classic warped sense of humour in songs like "Cursed" where he pokes fun at himself for the listeners' amusement. Growing up loving hip hop in the 90s, Cage was one of the illest emcees to ever bring a haunting perspective to hip hop in a way that hadn't been really been done before and just like many other underground hip hop heads in that era, I became a huge fan of his authentic flows. It is great to hear him making music again and to observe him evolve but I also enjoy the fact that he is catering to some of his oldschool fans by bringing back that shocking imagery in his rhyme schemes. Be sure to buy his new album Kill The Architect on iTunes:

Jane Plank

This week we salute singer/songwriter Jane Plank and we have added some of her new remixed tracks to the Phatleaks rotation! Hailing from Hopkins, Minnesota, Jane Plank brings to the table soulful vocal melodies over soothing guitar riffs and strings that will blow your mind. She is not afraid to experiment with techno remixing as we heard that in the songs she submitted to us. Jane fell in love with performing at an early age playing the role of Tammy Duncan in Disney's "Mighty Ducks" movie when she was only 12 years old! She then went on to receive a vocal and theater scholarship and graduated with a minor in music/vocals. Around 2006 Jane started writing original music and lyrics, and she has continues to rock crowds to this day. Be sure to be on the look out for big things to come from Jane follow this her here:

New Music from Hip Hop Artist Coalesce on Wise Word Entertainment

Phatleaks is pleased to announce that we have added new music into our daily rotation from Hip Hop Artist Coalesce. For those of you who don't know, Coalesce is a talented veteran underground rapper and producer with a rap sheet of ill tracks being released year after year straight killing it on the internet and at live shows. I first ran into this emcee rapping with this cat named Nonsense back in the day and I instantly became a fan after hearing his word play and flow. The way Coalesce messes with syllables and forces an insane amount of words into a single bar will turn any hip hop head into a fan, no doubt.
As a producer, I have always admired Coalesce's beats. He engineers a wide variety of beat styles and tempos blending oldschool and new school techniques. From orchestra strings to bass lines that vibrate your brain stem, no instrument is off limits for Coalesce. The ability to create an epic instrumental and then go write nasty lyrics to it is a skill that should be recognized and praised more often in hip hop and this dude tackles both tasks like a pro.
So obviously I was psyched to get my hands on some of his new trax after bumping into him at mutual friend's wedding and catching up with him. After chatting with him and throwing back a few beers, I also learned that Coalesce has recently formed an Entertainment Company/Record Label called "Wise Word Entertainment". Wise Word drops some serious music from local artists so be sure to keep an eye out for these up and coming musicians. Do yourself a big favor and follow Wise Word Ent on Twitter (@WiseWordEnt) and like them on Facebook so you can discover new artists and music on the daily:
